UK Customers Can Now Use PayPal For Contactless Payments

The world of payments seems to shift around at every possible turn. Contactless payments are a clear fan favorite in the United Kingdom, even though they are not overly common just yet. Vodafone users can now make contactless payments from their PayPal account. This is an exciting development, as this solution can be integrated into stores, public transport, and other real-life services.

Bringing More Convenience To Contactless Payments

One of the drawbacks customers have to deal with is linking their payment details to new contactless payment tools. Bringing a bit more convenience to the table would not be a bad thing per se. Since a lot of shoppers already use PayPal on a regular basis — which contains their payment information already — it makes sense to explore this option further.

Vodafone, who runs their own Vodafone Pay application on mobile, had been thinking along the same lines. By integrating PayPal support, app users can now buy services and items from over 400,000 locations across the United Kingdom. Contactless payment terminals are becoming more common in the region, although there is a lot of work to be done.

Kate Wright, Vodafone UK’s Head of Consumer Services, stated:

“Our customers told us that being able to use PayPal when making mobile payments was important to them, so we’re delighted to now offer this on Vodafone Pay. The service also works with any Visa and MasterCard credit or debit card, offering customers greater choice than any other mobile payment service.”

What is even more interesting is how this contactless payment service will also be accepted for various public transportation services. Both Transport for Rail and National Rail services accepting contactless and Oyster cards will support this new way of paying with PayPal. There is still a payment limit of £30 per transaction, though.

However, there is an option to surpass this transaction limit by using a PIN code. While this removes the contactless part of the equation somewhat, entering a four-digit code doesn’t take that much time either. After all, the app supports adding Visa and MasterCard credit and debit card information directly, removing the need to carry the card itself.

An exciting development in the world of contactless payments is how transactions can be completed even when the phone is turned off. In the UK, contactless SIM cards are used, which can connect to the payment terminal automatically. It is always good to have an emergency option when one’s phone has died or the battery is very low.
