Top 4 Shoe Manufacturers Experimenting With 3D Printing

The number of use cases for 3D printing is virtually limitless. It is rather remarkable how many shoe manufacturers are currently experimenting with this technology. It goes to show there is a big market for 3D printed shoes, although it may take some time until all consumers see the merit of purchasing such a pair. The companies below feel now is the time to experiment with 3D printed footwear, that much is certain.

4. United Nude

Do not confuse the company’s name with a business active in the adult industry. United Nude is shoe manufacturers who first entered the 3D printing space back in September of 2014. The company issued a statement as to how they are using a new Cube 3D printed to create their own shoes moving forward. Although it may seem like a rather strange model, rest assured there will be a market for 3D printed women’s shoes.

There are quite a few merits to using 3D printing technology in the footwear industry. Not only will it allow companies to create new and unique models, but it will also drive the prices down. Considering this particular model can be printed with a consumer-grade 3D printer, there is no significant investment to be made in the first place. The shoe consists of three parts which link into each other.

3. Feetz

Although this is not necessarily the best-known shoe manufacturer in the world, Feetz made a name for itself by bringing custom 3D printed shoes to market in 2016. In fact, the company’s first model looks like any other type of shoe, with no telling signs of being 3D printed by any means. According to Feetz, using 3D printing technology allows for a better custom fit. Quite an interesting concept, that much is certain. The company even has its own forum where people can find more information.

2. Nike

Industry experts predict 2017 will be the year of 3D printed shoes, and they expect Nike to be among the front runners. Living up to this challenge will not be easy, though, even though they have made significant strides when it comes to reducing waste. In this regard, it is only normal to expect 3D printing is a big part of the company’s business strategy moving forward.

The company introduced the Nike Vapor Laser Talon football cleat back in 2013, and the Vapor HyperAgility Cleat in 2014. Moreover, Nike has an invaluable partnership with HP to focus more on 3d Printing moving forward. The bigger question is whether or not Nike can focus on the consumer-lifestyle market rather than just on athletic performance.

1. Adidas

Earlier this week, Adidas shocked the world with their latest model of 3D-printed shoes. In fact, it is perhaps the only model of comfortable footwear that is ready for mass production right now. Adidas plans to sell about 5,000 units over the fall and aims to ramp up production to over 100,000 by the end of 2018. It is unclear how much a pair of Futurecraft 4D will cost, but rest assured it will come with a premium price tag.
