KickassTorrents Is Revived From The Dead And Run By Virtually The Same Crew

In a rather surprising turn of events, it appears that the KickAsstorrents platform has suddenly come back to life. This is rather unusual, as the platform was asked to shut down by law enforcement agencies. But under the new management, KAT seems to be fully compliant, and they have enabled a DMCA takedown procedure.

Kickasstorrents Returns With A Plan

Over the past few years, the concept of torrenting has gotten a very bad reputation. The peer-to-peer BitTorrent protocol allows people from all over the world to share information and data without relying on centralized middlemen. Moreover, the protocol is accessible by anyone who owns an internet connection.

But the torrent system is also used by people who want to share data illegally. Pirated TV shows, movies, and music are some of the most common examples of how people use a torrent client. Kickasstorrents, one of the most prominent platforms offering such downloads, though not hosted on their servers or computers, was shut down as a result of the mounting piracy numbers.

To everyone’s surprise, the platform has relaunched under the same name and domain as before. The comeback of this service is rather unexpected, and the vast majority of people operating KAT are the same crew as before. Design-wise very little has changed, making users feel right at home on the revamped platform.

All of the site’s safe elements are still present, although no specific details have been provided as to what this entails exactly. The current KAT crew claims that they have built in a DMCA-takedown procedure to ensure that their content is not illegal. Moreover, they are not keeping copyrighted material on their own servers, hence they do not operate in any illegal fashion.

For now, it remains to be seen how long Kickasstorrents will be kept in the air. The investigation against the alleged former operator of the platform is still awaiting trial, although the crew feels this investigation is unlawful.  Arresting an individual in the Ukraine, yet aiming to treat him under US jurisdiction, is virtually impossible to pull off for something that isn’t even a criminal offense.

As one would come to expect, the most recent listings on the platform are everything but legal content. Various movies and TV shows are available for download, both in standard and high quality. Them again, the site is not hosting any content files themselves. Thus they are not doing anything wrong by the letter of the law.
