BTC-E Is Not Getting Hacked, Just Performing Routine Maintenance

Whenever a Bitcoin exchange platform goes down, the community is very much on edge as to what is going on behind the scenes. BTC-E, one of the more popular digital currency exchange platforms in existence today, has gone down all of a sudden. However, the company did announce they would be taking servers offline today for about sixty minutes to perform some maintenance checks.

BTC-E Is Performing Maintenance, Calm Down

Based on the information posted on Reddit, people seem to be thinking BTC-E has gone down due to some kind of mystery attack or perhaps even a data breach. Nothing could be further from the truth, however, as the company announced scheduled maintenance for today on Twitter a few days before this event.

It is understandable, however, why community members get on edge when BTC-E goes down. The company has a colored past, with not one but two hacks emptying various digital currency wallets. Keeping in mind how the communication between BTC-E and customers is not the best either, it is not hard to see why people would jump to conclusions.

This entire debacle should not last for more than sixty minutes, although it is hard to predict how long maintenance checks will take these days. Online platforms always need some work or upgrades, especially when other people’s finances are involved. No further details regarding the maintenance were announced at the time of publication.

While it is certainly positive to see BTC-E warn users will in advance of this downtime on Twitter, it seems like a lot of people never got the message. Something has to be done to improve relationships with customers on this exchange – and others-  as communication is a key factor is running a successful business in the Bitcoin world.

Twitter is an excellent way to connect with the entire world, but that doesn’t make it any easier to get a message across. In fact, due to the massive volume of tweets being sent out every second, important messages can get lost in the sea of spam. Communication between companies such as BTC-E and their customers should not just rely on social media these days.
